A New Year and a new way of ministering!

As the first snows of the new year have fallen and slowed things down considerably, I thought I would take a moment and get acclimated to a new format of sharing news with you.  Our website has been updated and it is now easier than ever for us to post news, updates, and exciting things that God is doing in the ministry and lives of the members of Southside Baptist Church.  In the past it has been difficult and time-consuming to keep our website up-to-date, and I apologize for the lapse in maintenance.  This new format (once I get accustomed to it) will make this task much easier and will make our web-site a great place to visit to find out what God is doing at Southside Baptist.

We’ve entered a new year and a new decade, and with our new website we are looking forward to new ways to minister to the needs of those around us.  In the very near future we plan to start posting videos of sermons here on the site, and we are especially excited about the possibility of using our presence on the internet to minister to those who are physically unable to fellowship and worship with us at 410 West Doncaster Avenue in Middlesboro, KY.

We’ve noticed that the cold winter that we have faced has kept some of our regular members, especially our elderly, from being able to assemble with us for Sunday worship, and we are looking at new ways for those who are shut-in (whether by disability or by winter weather) to be able to join us in worship live on Sunday morning from the warmth and safety of their homes.  To that end we are currently researching the best method to stream our services live on the internet.  Obviously our desire is to assemble together bodily with our brothers and sisters whenever possible, and we know that an internet stream of a service is not the same as being there.  Our goal is to offer an alternative when the best option is not available, and we feel that streaming our services live would be a good alternative for our shut-in members and visitors.  Please pray for us as we pursue this exciting new avenue of ministry.

We pray that God would guide all our efforts as we enter into this new year.  As we turn the calendar over and look ahead to the 365 days before us in 2011, we know that there will be many opportunities to present the gospel of our Lord and Savior to those who need to hear its message of hope, and may it be as our motto says, that

“The cross is the center of all we do.”

Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

In His Service,

Jonathan Hendrickson
